I adore apple pie! Classic desserts can be eaten year-round.  Because I enjoy it, I made apple pie bars with identical components for a tasty treat.

1

Lemon juice will keep cut apples from browning while you prepare the other ingredients.

2

Sautéed apples taste caramelized with brown sugar.  Essentially, brown sugar is granulated sugar with molasses.  This gives these bars a pleasant fall flavor.

3

The crumble topping is crisp with chopped walnuts.  You can use your favorite nut or a mix.  This dish works great with pecans or almonds.  Remove nuts from the topping if you don't like them.

4

These apples are baking staples.  They balance the sugar's sweetness with tartness.  When baked, Granny Smith apples retain their shape and can be used alone or with other apples.

5

Crisp and juicy, this apple bakes well.  Tart and sweet, it makes a great baking apple.  The red exterior with yellow and green stripes is attractive.

6

Fuji apples are popular snacks.  Large, juicy, and crisp, they retain their structure when baked.  They make great sweets with their honey-sweet flavor.
