For these simple drop biscuits, you don't need to roll or cut the dough. It takes less than an hour and only seven simple things to make them.
INGREDIENTS
– 2 cups all-purpose flour spooned & leveled (250 grams)– 2 teaspoons baking powder– ½ teaspoon baking soda– 2 teaspoons granulated sugar– 1 teaspoon salt– ½ cup cold unsalted butter divided (115 grams)– 1 cup cold buttermilk (240 ml)
INSTRUCTIONS
Heat the oven to 425°F (218°C). Arrange a large baking sheet with parchment or silicone baking mat. Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, granulated sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
1
Add 6 tablespoons (85 grammes) of cubed butter to the dry ingredients (reserve 2 tablespoons (30 grammes) for later).Cut butter into dry ingredients to make pea-sized crumbs.
2
Add the buttermilk and stir just until everything is mixed together. If you mix the dough too much, the biscuits will be tough. If you think the dough is too dry, add an extra tablespoon or two (15-30 ml) of buttermilk.
3
Put ¼ cup-sized balls of dough on the baking sheet one at a time, making sure there is some space between each one. For this step, you can either use a large scoop or a measuring cup that has been coated with nonstick cooking spray.
4
Brush buttermilk on biscuit tops. Bake biscuits for 15–20 minutes until browned and cooked. Take out of oven. Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons (30 grammes) butter. Top each biscuit with melted butter.Cool slightly before serving.
