Homemade Chex Mix Recipe

Classic snack: DIY Chex mix. Perfect for midday or pre-dinner snacks, it stays crunchy, salty, and fresh for weeks. Any cereal, toasted nuts, and crunchy treats work in our version. Many recipes, including the original, pour melted butter over Chex mix. Chex mix baked in the oven is best and most irresistible.

Ingredient

– 3 cups toasted oat cereal – 3 cups rice squares cereal – 3 cups whole grain wheat cereal – 1 cup mixed nuts (I like cashews and almonds) – 1 cup mini twist pretzel – 1 cup pita chip

Ingredient

– 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted – 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce – 2 teaspoons garlic powder – 1 teaspoon onion powder – 1 teaspoon smoked paprika – 1⁄2 teaspoon dried thyme – 1⁄4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instruction

Heat the oven to 250°F. Put parchment paper on a large rimmed baking sheet. Combine the three cereals, nuts, pretzels, and pita chips in a large bowl.

Spread the coated mix out evenly on the baking sheet that has been prepared. For even browning, stir and turn the mixture with a spoon every 15 minutes while it's baking for 60 to 75 minutes.

If the pan gets a little brown and crispy, take it out of the oven and let it cool completely before serving. It will keep getting crisper and crunchier as the Chex mix cools.

Before putting it away airtight for up to a week, break up any big clumps. It will taste better after a day or two because the flavours will blend together.
