Homemade Salted Caramel Sauce Recipe

It takes 15 minutes to make homemade salted caramel sauce with six ingredients. Spread it on ice cream, apple slices, or your favorite baked products!

– ¼ cup water (60 ml) – 1 cup granulated sugar (200 grams) – ⅔ cup heavy whipping cream (160 ml) at room temperature – 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (45 grams) cut into tablespoon-sized piece – 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon salt or to taste

Ingredient

Direction

Heat water and sugar in a heavy saucepan on medium. Use a larger pot than you think you'll need. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the fluid bubbles slightly.

1

Turn up the heat to high and boil without stirring. Boil the mixture for 4–12 minutes until it becomes amber.

2

Turn off the heat and carefully whisk in the heavy cream. Be careful—the mixture will bubble up. Add butter, vanilla, and salt one at a time.

3

Transfer the caramel sauce to a plate, cool fully, and refrigerate tightly covered. After cooling and refrigerating, caramel sauce thickens.
