Today at 12:00 ET, the US Mint releases rolls and bags of the 2023 Jovita Idar quarter. The coin honors Mexican-American journalist Idar, who empowered women and promoted better education for children.
This quarter is the newest in the U.S. Mint's American Women Quarters™ series. Last year, the initiative began with five releases each year for four years. An American woman who has contributed to US history and development is honored each quarter.
The 7th of September, 1885 found Jovita Idar being born in the city of Laredo, Texas. She was reared in a household with eight children, all of whom were introduced to the concepts of political activity and civil rights during their formative years. In the year 1903, she began her career as a teacher after obtaining her teaching credential.
She quit shortly after that, however, because of the deplorable conditions that her Mexican American pupils were subjected to because of her teaching. After that, she pursued a career in journalism, where she pushed for a variety of social concerns of the day, including education, economic equality for Mexican Americans, and other causes simultaneously.
There are three distinct goods that are available to purchase that include the brand new Jovita Idar quarter dollars for the year 2023. A total of three separate United States Mint facilities—the Philadelphia Mint, the Denver Mint, and the San Francisco Mint—are responsible for the production of these coins.
Collectors choose San Francisco Mint quarters because they are manufactured primarily for numismatic reasons and have restricted mintage. Jovita Idar quarters minted at the Philadelphia and Denver Mints entered circulation on Monday, Aug. 14.
Every one of the series' quarters features the identical headshot of George Washington on the obverse. Artist Laura Gardin Fraser first sculpted the portrait of the first US president in 1932 to commemorate Washington's bicentennial.
There is a product restriction of 9,140 for two-roll sets, and the first household order limit is three. There is a maximum of 12,620 for the three-roll set, and the initial order for a household is similarly restricted to three. There is a minimum purchase quantity of ten bags per home and a maximum order quantity of 7,860 bags per choice.
