Today at 12:00 ET, the US Mint releases rolls and bags of the 2023 Jovita Idar quarter. The coin honors Mexican-American journalist Idar, who empowered women and promoted better education for children.
This quarter is the newest in the U.S. Mint's American Women Quarters™ series. Last year, the initiative began with five releases each year for four years. An American woman who has contributed to US history and development is honored each quarter.
In Laredo, Texas, Jovita Idar was born on September 7, 1885. The eight youngsters in her household discussed civil rights and political activity. She started teaching in 1903 after earning her diploma. The awful conditions her Mexican American kids were in led to her resignation shortly after. She eventually became a journalist, advocating for education, Mexican American economic equality, and other social causes.
The 2023 Jovita Idar quarter dollars come in three products. They contain coins from the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints. Choices include:
Collectors choose San Francisco Mint quarters because they are manufactured primarily for numismatic reasons and have restricted mintage. Jovita Idar quarters minted at the Philadelphia and Denver Mints entered circulation on Monday, Aug. 14.
The series has the identical George Washington obverse picture on all quarters. Laura Gardin Fraser produced the portrait of Washington on his 200th birthday in 1932.
The initial household order limit for two-roll sets is three and the product limit is 9,140. Three-roll set sales are limited to 12,620 and three per household. Bag choices restrict products to 7,860 and allow 10 household orders.
Other U.S. Mint goods include yearly sets with proof quarters (issued March 21) and silver quarters (launched April 4). On Aug. 24, unique Christmas decorations will showcase them.
