Panettone French Toast Casserole with Brown Sugar Topping Recipe

A brown sugar-topped french toast dish made with Italian panettone is excellent. Perfect holiday and brunch recipe.

– 1 cup brown sugar – ½ cup butter (one stick) – 2 tablespoons corn syrup – 5 large egg – 1 ½ cups half & half – 2 teaspoons vanilla – 1 loaf panettone bread (about a pound)

In a small pot, melt butter, brown sugar, corn syrup. Stir the melted mixture until smooth and fully integrated. Use a 13x9 casserole or baking dish.

Slice the panettone bread into 1.5-inch slices and arrange them in a single layer in the baking dish, cutting and squeezing them snugly.

Mix eggs, half-and-half, and vanilla. Dump panettone. To coat bread with custard, lightly press. Cover and chill casserole overnight. If baking, continue.

Pre-heat oven to 350. Bake uncovered for 40 minutes until panettone is puffy and edges are pale and golden.
