Taylor Swift’s tour sales failure revealed a dysfunctional ticketing industry

Following Taylor Swift's Eras tour ticket release turmoil, the firm was in the spotlight as fans complained that delays and issues had raised prices or prevented them from buying tickets.

The outrage was so great that some Swifties sued Ticketmaster for fraud, price-fixing, and anti-competitive behavior. After settling talks, the case was abandoned this week.

It was hardly a unique instance, with large concerts and festivals increasingly experiencing annoying outages, long wait times, and exorbitant charges.

This is partly due to rising live event demand after the outbreak. However, it underlines the flaws of a ticketing market critics say is buckling under heavy demand.

Touts can buy tickets and sell them for excessive prices, while concertgoers suffer substantial price rises even if they buy directly from the seller.

Many critics have called Ticketmaster a “monopoly” because to its market dominance.
