Periodically repeat what the speaker has said in your own words. This not only demonstrates your understanding but also allows the speaker to clarify or elaborate on specific points
If there's something you don't understand or need more information about, ask open-ended questions to encourage the speaker to provide additional details.
Acknowledge and validate the speaker's emotions by reflecting them back. For example, "It sounds like you're feeling frustrated about the situation."
