Merchants have been sounding the alarm about shoplifting, and not only from those looking to score a five-finger discount.

According to the Retail Industry Leaders Association, organized retail crime cost US merchants almost $70 billion in 2020.

Minnesota-based retailer, stated on Tuesday that it would close nine shops due to theft and organized retail crime, despite acknowledging the stores'.

 The corporation issued a press release detailing its commitment to the well-being of its employees and customers.

Up from 1,948 in January and 19 more than this time last year, Target now has 1,955 locations across the United States.

It was a tough call, the company said in a press release, but hiring security guards and installing theft-deterrent gear was costing too much.

Target claimed that its staff had made every effort to uphold safety regulations and provide a pleasant shopping experience for consumers.
